Pair of Enamel Plaques Painted with Blue Landscapes and Figures 1700s
3.300,00€
Pair Of Enamel Plaques With Landscapes Set Within Gilded Frames of European and probably French provenance executed on an enameled metal plate painted in miniature with bucolic landscapes in shades of blue. They were designed as a pendant since both compositions are mirrored and are presented within a frame of embossed and fire-gilded copper. The miniatures depict resting shepherds during sheep herding, with landscapes and architecture in the background. In excellent condition, dating back to the 18th century. Enamel decoration involves the application of a fused glass powder applied to a metal background to which it adheres by the same fusion process. During the 1700s there was a rich production of snuff boxes, umbrella handles , delightful and futile niceties in which enamel has no distinction, except material, from painted porcelain.
